ABOUT
Les musiciens bâtisseurs
The ensemble Les Musiciens Bâtisseurs was founded by Nathan Degrange Roncier out of his combined passions for music and architecture.
In the collective imagination, the word bâtisseur (builder) evokes the people who, in past eras, constructed buildings that are among the most beautiful examples of Humanity’s creations. Les Musiciens Bâtisseurs bring to life musical repertoires that can be associated with the work of these craftsmen and craftswomen, while actively commissioning composers to « build » the music of tomorrow.
Throughout the ages, builders have set out on the adventure of great architectural innovation with tools and techniques that have remained virtually unchanged. Just like stonemasons and their age-old tools, the ensemble highlights historical instruments used in centuries-old repertoires as well as in today’ new music.
Led by the founder of the ensemble, Les Musiciens Bâtisseurs perform in widely varied groups, ranging from duos to larger ensembles, often in partnership with other artists. As part of festivals, they are regularly invited to perform in major venues such as the Albi Cathedral or the abbey church of Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye, in the Île-de-France Region, in Bordeaux, in Provence, in the Loire Valley, etc.
Based in Chartres, a stone’s throw from the famous cathedral, the Association Les Musiciens Bâtisseurs manages the ensemble’s musical projects, as well as the documented reconstruction of medieval stone buildings.
